Poetry by Alex:
My full-length book of poems, Making Bones Walk, was published in 2007 by Luna Publications. The poems in the selection to the left are all from the book.
Poetry is my first love -- it's concise and direct, and I feel better about writing a poem I'm happy with than any other form of writing. It's an ongoing challenge to try and find what I think is a strong and unique way to say something valuable, and I honestly believe self-censorship and rewriting to be as important a part of the process as talent. As William Stafford says "we must have ready proof in the lines that the author is worthy company." People are sometimes under the vague impression you have to take a course to appreciate or read poetry, but everything you need should be in a poem, and discovering it is no more complicated than going to a bookstore and deciding what you want.
