My first reaction to the sudden closing of the I.V. lounge was to move all the readings somewhere else, and continue the series. But over the next few days after the bar closed, I started to admit to myself that after more than five years, I was ready to retire from running a series, and that it might be better to offer my full support (in terms of contact information for people, etc.) to someone interested in doing a new series with the same format. So, to make a long story short, poet and writer Carey Toane (who was originally booked to read at the I.V. lounge Aug 29, four days after the bar suddenly closed) will be running a new series I'm excited about. A very cool space called The Press Club was her idea, the management seems great, and I think it will work out well -- Carey will do a terrific job with the new series.
